Many people, as well as myself, have said there will be a new normal after this Coronavirus pandemic ends. And yes, I do believe it will end. So, what will that new normal be? I think it will be whatever you make of it. Whatever that may be for you, I think it very important that you make it as close to the way you have always lived as possible.
Since my wife has been teaching from home, I have had the wonderful opportunity to see how great a teacher she truly is. She sits by the computer all day long making sure she is available to answer any of her student’s questions. Many of her parents have thanked her for being available for their children during the day. In some cases, the parents have to go to work and nobody is home for them. They appreciate that their children have something to do and someone watching out for them throughout the day.
This is a great example of keeping things as normal as possible. Some people say that the kids shouldn’t be doing all this school-work during this time. They should be spending time with family. I agree with them to a certain extent, as I have greatly valued our increased family time. But kids need to learn that life can and should go on, even in extreme circumstances. Kid’s find comfort and stability in routine. The more “normal” their life remains, the better they will be able to cope.
This is the same with us as adults. Yes, things will probably be different after this, but they don’t have to be that different. You will make your own normal going forward. Live your life and your dreams. Travel where and when you want to go. Be smart and safe, but most of all be normal.
