My River Cruise Experiences

So, as I start focusing on river cruising, I have to admit I have never personally sailed on one.  I have been fortunate to grow up in northern KY very near the Ohio River.  So, I do have an understanding of life on the river and have seen the numerous boats and barges on it many, many times in my life.

I have many great memories of my times on the river.  My earliest include riding on the river boat to cross from Kentucky into Ohio to go the Coney Island Amusement Park. I was very young, but I still remember my excitement of riding the rides.  Even though the rides are gone, Sunlight Pool is still open to families for swimming to this day.

My teenage years are filled with memories of going with my friend and his family to ski on the river.  They had a nice ski boat and I did a couple trips each summer with him or one of my other friends that had a boat and house at Lake Williamstown.  It took a while, but I eventually got the point where I could ski without falling.  Never could cross back over the wake though.

My other memories include dinner cruises.  I’ve done a few and they really make for a very enjoyable evening. They always had an excellent buffet and we would sail up the river for about an hour then turn around and head back to the dock.  I loved the vies of the city of Cincinnati from the river.  I also have to mention the great dinner cruises in New York Harbor cruises on some of my tour group trips.  Boating on the rivers and waterways of America is definitely worth a try if you have never had the opportunity.  I highly recommend it.
