I have been working from home for the past 2 years, so having to stay home because of the Corona Virus is not that big of a difference for me. But I do miss my weekly networking meetings where I get a chance to interact and meet with people that are both business partners and friends. Meeting with other small business owners has given me a whole new perspective on the life of an entrepreneur. I worked for 32 years getting up every morning to work in public education. I’ve gained a great deal of respect for the average hard-working American.
The biggest lesson I have learned since retirement from teaching is how important it is to meet and get to know other people. In teaching, it was easy to focus only on my students in the classroom and not take enough time to get to know the colleagues around me. Starting my own travel business has made me realize the importance of reaching beyond my comfort zone and the vital role other adults can have in my life. I have learned about the givers-gain philosophy where I invest in helping other people with their ventures and, in return, they invest in me also.
My faith teaches me that the most fulfilling life we can lead is to live our life for others. I try to apply that to my clients also. I use my time to save their planning time. I strive to make their vacation experiences the best possible. I enjoy learning so I can offer my experience and expertise to guide clients in making decisions. All these things confirm to me that a life lived for others truly is the most blessed life.
