Today, I will tell about the fourth and final day of our cruise. This was our Day at Sea. I honestly wasn’t looking forward to this day too much. We were going to be stuck on a boat at sea. What could we possibly do? By the end of that day, I actually felt it was my favorite day of the trip and now actually look forward to those days.
The first positive I noticed about the day was no stress about getting ready to disembark the ship at the port. We could get up whenever we wanted and do whatever we felt like doing. No hurry to be or go anywhere. We spent the majority of the day hanging out near the pools and enjoying the views from the deck. This is also the time when I became aware of what the name “deep blue sea” really meant. I always thought it referred to blue water and it was deep. But I realized the sea is actually a beautiful deep blue color.
As we wondered the deck around the pools there were “adult games” being played on the deck. The pool activity directors were doing activities with the 20 somethings (which the ship was loaded with) and, let’s just say, involved interesting hip gyrations. I got “the look” from Kathy again and we moved on. Then, as we were exploring the ship looking for the mini-golf course, we were directed by one of the workers to its location. She also told us, “It’s where the nude sun-bathing deck used to be.” The rest of the day was great, and we started our journey back home after we departed the ship early the next morning.
What did I learn from my first cruise? My wife and kids weren’t necessarily convinced they wanted to cruise again. Don’t get me wrong. It was a nice vacation. It just wasn’t a very family friendly cruise. So, it is very important that you find the cruise vacation that fits you best. I did convince them to go on another cruise years later, but I made sure it fit our family. They loved it, but that’s another story for a future edition.
