I recently had the privilege of attending my church’s Fall weekend men’s retreat. We stayed at Country Lake Retreat Center in Indiana, just north of the Ohio River across from Louisville, KY. It was an excellent time to relax and rejuvenate. The speaker spoke about ways to be a better man, husband and father. It also allowed time to reconnect with God and get life’s priorities in line.
The accommodations were excellent with a rustic feel very much like a State Park lodge. The camp grounds had numerous activities such as swimming area, zipline over water and a “blob” to jump on and launch people. I didn’t see many of the men trying that one. I did participate in the axe throwing events. I have to say, it was more difficult than it looks. The trick is to get the axe to do one rotation before it sticks in the log. But. I eventually got to where I could stick it in the target consistently, but not necessarily near the bullseye.
With all that said, even though it was a short journey and just a one-night stay, it was a very enjoyable experience. Taking time to share life experiences with other men and realizing others have problems common to you, gives you hope to push through life’s trials. So, take the time to take those short getaways to rejuvenate. They can be life changing.
