Continuing our family adventure at Universal Orlando, we woke up on day 2 to enter the parks for the first time. I had spent numerous hours figuring out our days on the “Universal Touring Plans” app (highly recommended by the way). We started the day at Universal Studios and went straight toward Diagon Alley. On the way there, we saw there was no ride for The Mummy, so we got in line for that. We walked right on. It was an indoor rollercoaster with flames and drops and definitely nothing like anything my family had ever ridden. They thought it was pretty cool, but I noticed a tinge of motion sickness when I got off. Nothing big though. We continued our journey to Diagon Alley.
When we got to where I expected it to be, we noticed a lot of people walking into an entrance that honestly looked like a bathroom. We followed them and came around the corner and all of the sudden we were standing in Diagon Alley. With the Dragon sitting on top of Gringotts and the music from the movie playing throughout the alley, it was quite the first impression. The shops in Diagon Alley were all from the movie and it was a perfect match for selling merchandise related to Harry Potter. Universal could not have done a better job creating a totally immersive experience throughout the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! We proceeded immediately to Escape from Gringotts, and the theming once again was spot on. The queue experience was just like being in the movie.
We had not exposed our kids to Harry Potter when they were growing up, but I thought it would be a good idea to watch a couple of the movies before we came to Universal. As the day went on, I noticed that Stephen seemed to be very knowledgeable about everything. I asked him how he knew so much. He admitted that he basically had watched the rest of the movies on Youtube. His insights to all the shops actually added greatly to our experience. We were already very impressed, and it was not even lunch time yet. But the rest is a story for another day.
