Well, we were looking into possibly traveling somewhere this summer, but we had a change of plans. Kathy fell down some stairs and fractured her leg. She had surgery and will be in a splint/boot for 8-10 weeks this summer. Everything went well with the surgery, but Kathy is not very good at sitting around. She is typically full speed from the time she wakes up until she goes to bed. Inactivity is not her thing.
While I’m on the subject of Kathy, I wanted to take time to write about her for being such a great teacher. As we were all in quarantine, Kathy had to work from home, and I had the great fortune of seeing first-hand how much she cares for and does for her students. The online learning was difficult for students, but I assure you, it was very difficult for teachers as well. On the first day of online school, I knew she was in for a challenge. All the students were in the online forum just talking over each other and Kathy could not get their attention. That’s when she discovered the mute button, and very quickly taught them to mute and unmute themselves at appropriate times. Having been a teacher myself, I found that moment very amusing.
I know all teachers were challenged by devising a new way to teach students with no notice, but they found a way. And I also know Kathy went above and beyond what other teachers were doing for her students. It could have been easy to just write it off as an impossible task, but she kept plugging and making sure her students were learning. She would spend her entire day sitting in front of her computer even after the students were given their assignments. She made herself available throughout the day to answer student and parent questions regarding the assignments. Then she would spend her evenings replying to parent emails or making sure everything was uploaded and ready to go for the next day.
I’m proud of my wife. That’s why I love her and that’s why I married her.
